Volume 7, Issue 6 : June 2008
Dear Subscriber
Welcome to Wade Trade News import-export news for June 2008. Read on to discover new trade opportunities you might like to take a closer look at in Cambodia, Shanghai and Nepal, - plus sources for import-exporting food, trading job lots and a handy guide for finding the best countries to do business with.
Exploring Opportunities In Cambodia
*********************************
Cambodia's economy enjoyed 10.8% growth last year, and the country is touted as the newest Asian tiger economy. With a market of 13 million people its main industries are garments, tourism and construction. In 2007, foreign visitors exceeded 2 million. In 2005, oil and natural gas deposits were found in Cambodia's territorial waters - once production begins in 2011 the oil revenue could transform Cambodia's economy.
Currently the Cambodia trade sites that exist are quite poor. However, Yellow Pages Cambodia offers a reliable directory of trade contacts. It also offers 'quick links' to embassies, consulates, diplomatic missions, exporters, garment and textile companies, wholesalers and manufacturers, importers and ministries/governmental entities. You can find it at:
www.yellowpages-cambodia.com.
Shanghai Plans Imported Products Exhibition
***************************************
An international exhibition on imported products and technology will be held in Shanghai this November by the China-European Association for Technical & Economic Cooperation (
www.ceatec.org.cn) and the Shanghai International Sourcing Promotion Centre.
The exhibition will focus on helping such industries as the IT, energy saving, biotechnology, pharmacy, printing and packing, mechanical and electrical, light industry, electronic communications, agricultural machinery and food processing enter the Chinese market. The exhibition will last three days but there will also be an opportunity for foreign enterprises to display all year round in the exhibition hall.
Developing Trade Relations With Nepal
**********************************
Pakistan's Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Bal Bahadur, has recently said that there are great opportunities for the development of trade, together with huge economic and investment potential, in Nepal. He was addressing members of the Managing Committee and Zonal Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Lahore. H.E. Bal Bahadur said that there are ample opportunities for both Pakistani as well as foreign investors to invest in Nepal. However, he added that trade relations between most countries and Nepal are currently not very strong - so countries should make more effort to improve the existing framework.
The Government of Nepal website, with lots of links to government organisations, is here:

Trading Job Lots Worldwide
*************************
One way to get involved in international trade easily is to buy and sell what are known as job lots - packages, pallets or even containers of particular goods - which can be bought cheaply in one country and sold elsewhere for more.
Here are a couple of contacts you might find useful for trading job lots: Stock Clothes
buy and sell trade quantities of clothing and other goods all over Europe - mainly past season, over production, liquidations, customer/shop returns, discounted, seconds, surplus, closeouts etc. At the moment they are offering many items from the Next, Kookai and Mexx brands. Based in Lithuania. Their website is here:
www.stock-clothes.eu.
4 Everywhere specialise in trading in job lots - goods unsold, damaged, not meeting specifications etc. You can sell job lots through the site. Or subscribe to their newsletter and let them know what you are interested in buying if you want to be notified of lots as they come in. Based in the Netherlands - English version of the site available at
www.4everyware.nl.
All You Need To Know About The World Bank
****************************************
The World Bank isn't a bank as such - but a specialised development agency. It is one of the United Nations' agencies, made up of 184 member countries, and more properly known as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The World Bank Group's work includes addressing poverty and improving the living standards of people in the developing world. It provides loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge sharing services to low and middle
income countries to reduce poverty. The Bank promotes growth to create jobs and to encourage poor people to take advantage of these opportunities.
From an international trading point of view, however, the World Bank has an invaluable website at
www.worldbank.org. There you can find news and information on developing and other worldwide markets, facts and statistics, details of World Bank projects and lots of links to other trade and information sites worldwide. Worth adding to your list of resources!
Where Are The Best Countries To Do Business ?
****************************************
There are almost 200 countries in the world today - and some make it very easy to import-export, while others make it very difficult. Obviously you can save yourself a lot of hassle and boost your profits by choosing the ones that are easier to do business with!
You can find out how easy (or difficult) a country is to do business with by consulting The Doing Business website at
www.doingbusiness.org. There you'll find reports on matters such as starting a business, obtaining licenses, getting credit, trading across borders, using contracts and more. You can even compare cities within a country. The 'Business Planet' feature even allows you to select the easier countries from a colour-coded map of the world.
Food Export USA
***************
Food import-export is an increasingly important sector for international traders - with rising food prices worldwide and many countries having to import more food than ever before. If you're interested in getting started in the food industry here's a great site: Food Export USA - Northeast, is a non-profit organisation that promotes the export of food and agricultural products from the northeast region of the United States. The organisation has been helping exporters of food and agricultural products sell their products overseas since 1973. In conjunction with its member states, it provides a wide range of services to facilitate trade between local food companies and importers around the world. These services include: export promotion, customised export assistance and a funding programme. Even if you aren't thinking of trading with the USA itself there's lots of useful information about the world food trade on this site:
www.foodexportusa.org.
